Pleated Lamp Hack

There is one thing you should know about me: I’m on a lighting kick. I’m making it my mission to transform our home into an accent lighting space only. No overhead lights allowed.

While I, personally, want to add lamps to nearly every corner of my home, my budget says otherwise. So here’s what I’ve been using —

Yes; you’re seeing that right. I’m constructing my own lamps for a designer look but at a much more attainable price.

Pleats are finally having the moment they deserve and these pleated lamp shades are my greatest hack to-date. They’re classic. They textural. They’re feminine. And they have the ability to update nearly any lamp you already have for any space in your home.

Here is how I use them

Mini base with small shade

or explore all of Target’s mini lamp bases here.

I just cannot get over how high-end these little shades make a rather cheap base look.

Large base with large shade

NOTE: We did have to alter the structure of the shade to hand upside down on our floor lamp.

Light Bulbs

The lightbulb you use in your lamps makes all of the difference. HERE is my absolute favorite. It casts a very pretty, soft glow.

Other options —

If you don’t want to have to create your own pleated lamp, here are a few great options:

  • This one HERE with lots of great colors to chose from

  • This one HERE for some wood-based neutrals

If you add these to your home, please let me know and send a picture! I love knowing that my finds become a small part of your life.
